Download Google Chrome Extension Manager
This is a great way for Web developers and general users alike to see if that page you're viewing looks the way it would in a browser every major site targets—Microsoft Internet Explorer. It can be handy, too, if Chrome doesn't like a page you want to view. Google's browser isn't infallible; it even mis-displays PCMag.com in minor ways: The "carousel" of images with links to hot stories doesn't show arrows on either side, the way it does in IE and Firefox. It's also very handy for sites like Outlook Webmail, which requires IE for full functionality. Unlike the other, more popular IETab extionsion, this one doesn't constantly pop up error messages, such as for scripting irregularities. It also lets you specify sites that should always use the IE page renderer. Install IE Tab Classic
22. RSS Subscription Extension
The lack of a built-in feed reader is a major difference between Chrome and all the other major Web browsers. This extension moves towards rectifying that situation. Whenever you land on a page that contains RSS or Atom feeds, the standard orange RSS icon appears in the address bar, and clicking it lets you subscribe to the feed. You'll then need to open Google Reader and hit subscribe again. So it's not quite a built-in RSS reader like the other browsers offer, but it's a step closer. Install RSS Subscription Extension
23. Docs PDF/PowerPoint Viewer
Much faster than using plug-ins, Google's own PDF reader extension pops up instantly when you navigate from a link that leads to an Acrobat or PowerPoint file rather than a standard web page. It does this the easy way: by opening the file on its Google docs site. So, you may not get all the features of the first-party software, but, in most cases, the files will display just fine. Plus, it's fast. Install Docs PDF/PowerPoint Viewer
24.Chromed Bird
This versatile, slick Twitter client lets you see your recent update feed, mentions, direct messages, favorites, and lists. Not only that, but you can easily tweet from it, with built-in URL shortening. The extension even pops up a discreet, small window as new tweets arrive. One caveat: If you're using more than one Twitter client, you should tune down Chromed Bird's API hits. I started getting warnings that I was using up my 150 hits per hour. Install Chromed Bird
25. AdThwart
If you get nauseous from sites' flashing advertisements, AdThwart is your friend. You can even tell it which areas on a Web page are the offenders. On the extension's options page, you can choose from a number of lists of known ad servers to block, enter your own. You can also conversely enter good domain to its white list, and it won't thwart anything from that domain. Advanced users can even add custom filters. Install AdThwart
26. Tabs to the front!
What this simple extension does should be a simple setting in Chrome itself. But since it isn't, those, like me, who like to give new tabs the focus immediately can install Tabs to the front! (Chrome pops them under the existing tabs). Install Tabs to the front!
27. StayFocusd
Here's one I need, and I'm probably not alone. StayFocusd keeps you on task by limiting your Web surfing. You set it to block sites you specify after a time allotment you specify. So you can't watch YouTube videos all day anymore. The extension still lets you bookmark a site, and you can allow subsections while keeping the site's main URL off-limits. Install StayFocusd
28. ChromePad
Another widget-like extension, this handy notepad is always there for you to jot down tidbits while you're browsing. It's as quick and simple as it gets, though I do wish it let you create multiple notes, but there doesn't seem to be a limit on how deep your notepad can get. It supports cut-and-paste. Install ChromePad
29. iMacros
Google's own office contender, Google docs, lacks a basic capability that installed word processors and spreadsheets have had for over a decade—macros. Perhaps this extension can fill the void. iMacros, which is also available as a Firefox extension, lets users automate typical Web actions like form filling, by recording actions—no programming required. But when you're done recording, you can see the generated code and make manual edits. To run your macro, either choose it from the iMacros window or assign a shortcut to it. You can even play back macros in loop mode for multiple runs, encrypt passwords with a stored key.
You can also share your macros via a link, or embed bookmarkets in Web pages that will play them. Unless you share them these ways, macro code is only stored on the user's computer. A couple limitations I found when recording macros was that they couldn't open new tabs, and I couldn't delete macros. The Pro and Scripting editions add scheduling and command line interface. Install iMacros
30. Shareaholic
This simple but handy extension gives you an easy way to share links on your favorite social networks. When you land on a page you want to broadcast to your social networking world, just click the Shareaholic icon and you'll get a choice of all the biggies—Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Tumblr. It also lists URL shortener Bit.ly, and lets you directly email the URL either from your installed mail client or from a Web e-mail account. Install Shareaholic
