Palro Introduce Herself

As we all know, robotics is serious business in Japan with different companies trying to outdo other companies’ robots with newer functions and updated intellect. One such robot that is in the running is the mini humanoid PALRO made by Fuji Soft, which is now being developed to speak in English. And we mean not just talk, it can actually converse with humans.

Apart from its female voice, PALRO features 20 joints, five microphones, voice recognition, mono speakers, a 0.3-megapixel camera, WiFi, a USB port, an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 1GB internal memory, 4GB flash memory, and a set of sensors. It stands 39.8 centimeters tall and weighs 1.6 kilograms, although we are still baffled why it is squat most of the time

The robot is currently only available to educational institutes (for about $3,600 USD), but there’s no doubt that it will become more widely available once its capabilities have been further expanded.  PALRO’s no slouch in the specs department, running Linux (ubuntu 8.04LTS) on an Intel Atom processor (Z530 1.6GHz) with 1GB DDR2 SDRAM and can communicate wirelessly with your home PC to access a slew of applications.
